Katonga’s nearest safe water source is a ninety-minute walk each way, and the round trip falls mostly to women and girls, who lose school and work time to it every single day.
This appeal funds a 60-metre borehole, a hand pump rated for heavy daily use, and a concrete apron that keeps the water table from being contaminated by runoff. It will serve roughly 1,100 people across four neighbouring villages.
We work with a local drilling contractor and train two community members as caretakers before the rig leaves, so small repairs happen within a day rather than a season.
